The Heart Herd

The Heart Herd is a small group of rescued and rehabilitated horses who have been given a second chance at Heart of Horse Sense and now participate in our EAS programs.

Horses from the Heart Herd play a vital role in our equine-assisted services programs, assisting both horses and humans in developing the patience, attunement, and communication skills essential for nurturing, connected relationships.

Meet the Herd

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a draft pony, a Hafflinger who came to the farm several years ago. She showed up “just a bit thin” but quickly settled in and started gaining weight. She and her “sister” Spice are an excellent team and good member of the working herd.

Barbie

Chance joined us in 2023 following the passing of his owner. He truly understands grief and has an uncanny ability to sense those in need of comfort or a gentle nudge from his nose. He’s recognizable by his gorgeous black coat. Chance became a member of our Heart Herd quickly after joining our farm because of his gentle, calm nature and his innate connection to those suffering or experiencing grief. He may be the gentlest horse you’ll ever meet.

Barbie or “Barb” is our resident beauty queen! She’s easily identifiable by her “Barbie-blonde” main and tail, as well as her lovely palomino coat. Barb came to the farm through one of our therapists, and since has become a much-beloved member of our Heart Herd. She has touched so many lives with her steady, calming presence. She is especially fond of scratches, and loves treats!

Spice

Spice is also a draft pony, a Hafflinger who came to the farm with her “sister” Pumpkin from a bad situation and a little thin. In fact, she gained weight so fast we did a pregnancy test on her! Now a happy member of the working herd.

Donate ‘In Memory of’ or ‘In Honor of’

Honor those you love and wish to remember through your monthly Heart Herd support. Nicole Kelley has been honored by her family in this way after her untimely death. She was an avid horse lover and just beginning to get into the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy when she passed.

To similarly honor or remember someone special (2-legged or 4-legged), choose your monthly giving level and then contact Shannon@HeartofHorseSense.org.
